Bald Mike
Thanks to my family, I have been around boats since I was a child. It started with going to family vacations in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", Minnesota. Those were great memories of fishing, swimming, horseshoes, campfires, rustic cabins and of course boating.
Growing up, our first boat was a small v-bottom fishing boat, the style with metal bench seats and a small tiller motor. I quickly learned it was awesome to own a boat! But how could this boat become something more? Dad knew. He took the plain 14’ fishing boat to his brother-in-law’s auto body shop and gave it a custom paint job with a deep metallic blue finish! Now we were stylish. Or so we thought. Oh well, we did drown lots of bait at the lakes. Good times...thanks dad!
After a few years dad really stepped it up a notch and bought a brand new 20-footer! THANK YOU dad…woo-hoo!!! That’s right, he bought a 1986 “Bass Buggy” pontoon with a 50 horsepower Mercury outboard. It was very spacious and modern, compared to the cramped fishing boat. It took all it had, but the motor was just enough to get a 120 pounder up on skis. We owned that boat for quite a few years and enjoyed it so much. Great memories!
A combination of those memories, water, sun and fun have brought me down the path I’m on. As an adult, I have owned a few different boats ranging from 20’ to 27’ in length. All of them have been bowriders because that is what was always best for our family…and we like to entertain by inviting other families and friends with us. Someday a cruiser style might be the right boat, but for now we are enjoying the open bows and the ability to “play” on the water with our kids.
Part of what I enjoy is seeing other people having fun on our boat. So, I thought, “why not carry that over into helping other people find boats.” Hence, Bald Mike’s. I am just starting out and look forward to helping other families to have fun and build memories that will last a lifetime!
I hope my children will want to carry on the boating hobby for years to come!
